The Immigration History Research Center (IHRC) offers the Michael G. Karni Scholarship and Grants in Aid to support scholars traveling to the University of Minnesota during 2011-2012 for research in the IHRC’s historical collections.

IHRC Project Digitizing Immigrant Letters

This pilot project digitized letters from the IHRC (Immigration History Research Center) collections that were written between 1850 and 1970 both by immigrants ( the so-called “America letters”) and to immigrants (“Europe Letters”) in languages other than English. The website encourages scholars, teachers, students and the public to interpret letters that express emotion and intimacy among separated loved ones in new ways.

First Colour Footage of Estonia Found in Canada

Two historically significant films, believed to be the first ever colour footage shot in Estonia in 1939, have been discovered in Canada by documentary filmmaker Marcus Kolga.
