The Worldwide Estonian Language Week took place from September 21- 27. The same week European Language Day was celebrated on September 26. To mark both these occasions, VEMU organized a quiz on the history and present usage of Estonian language as well as the languages of Estonia’s neighbouring countries (Latvian, Lithuanian, Finnish and Russian). It showed the differences and similarities of the languages that have lived side-byside for centuries.
The quiz competition ran from September 26 to October 4. During that period, six people out of 70 answered all the questions right and were awarded. The quiz is still open for the public – if you want to test your knowledge, access it here: https://forms.gle/vXPLwo7rTH4EXwVm7
VEMU also organized a virtual window exhibition to promote Estonia and the Estonian language in the windows of the G-floor of Tartu College. In the evenings, Bloor Street pedestrians could see Marko Mäetamm’s language themed postcards and learn some Estonian. The exhibition was also part of the Ontario Culture Days Festival.
