Since 2021, the National Library of Lithuania has been implementing the Reading Promotion Program funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. The purpose of the program is to encourage Lithuanian communities abroad to read Lithuanian books by taking care of their reading needs and environment.
This August, the Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania in São Paulo, Brazil, Audra Čiapienė, visited the National Library of Lithuania. During the meeting, Čiapienė received a pile of books intended for the Lithuanian Community in São Paulo. The guest met with the Director General of the National Library of Lithuania Aušrinė Žilinskienė, and the Head of the Documentary Heritage Research Department, Dr. Jolanta Budriūnienė, shared her thoughts about the challenges faced by the Lithuanian diaspora in general, discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the National Library of Lithuania and the Consulate General in São Paulo.
The Consul General also visited the exhibition “Stranded: Experiences of Fleeing West in 1944–1952,” which is currently exhibited in the Library.
