On Oct. 8 and Oct. 10 Prof. Jüri Talvet of the University of Tartu gave two talks, in Estonian and English respectively, at Tartu College.
In them he examined the tradition of discourse on the work and figure of Juhan Liiv, which has rooted the poet firmly in the Estonian literary canon and in the national imagination. The purpose of the speaker’s visit to Canada, sponsored by the Estonian Cultural Endowment Fund, was two-fold: to participate as poet and writer in the international festival of the Writers’ and Artists’ Residency in Val David, and as lecturer in the Cultural Programme at Tartu College in Toronto.
