The BaltHerNet and BAAC seminar “Mapping and Preserving the Audiovisual Heritage of the Baltic Diaspora in Sweden” will take place in Stockholm on April 25, 2009 at 10.00 at the National Library of Sweden (Kungliga Biblioteket, Humlegården park)
The seminar is organized by the Baltic Heritage Network in co-operation with the Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council, National Library of Sweden and Estonian National Congress in Sweden. The seminar is supported by the Compatriots Programme (Ministry of Education and Research, Estonia) and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Since 2006, the Working Group of Estonian Archives Abroad has held seminars for Estonian communities in Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Hamburg. For the first time, last fall in Toronto, the Latvian and Lithuanian Canadian communities were also involved in the process. In Stockholm we will continue this tradition.
The aims of the seminar are; to give an overview of the current state of the audiovisual heritage of the Baltic diaspora in Sweden, to look at the work of collecting, preserving and studying it, and to consider its problems and future prospects; to provide opportunities for the exchange of information, ideas and experience: to disseminate archival know-how.
Presenters: Ivi Tomingas (Estonian Film Archives), Lasse Nilsson (Swedish Television), Gunnel Jönsson (Swedish Radio), Pelle Snickars and Janis Kreslins (National Library of Sweden), Nadja Klich (Swedish Television), Peeter Grünberg (Estonian Archives in Sweden), Linas Saldukas (Lithuanian Emigration Institute), Piret Noorhani (Estonian National Museum).
We hope to welcome as participants those responsible for and interested in preserving their Baltic cultural heritage and the sharing of information. Also taking part will be representatives of memory institutions in Sweden.
The working language of the seminar is English.
