The summer school will take place on the 26th – 30th of June 2011 at Kääriku Leisure and Sports Centre (www.kaariku.com).
The Baltic Heritage Network’s summer schools are aimed at those Estonians abroad who are engaged in collecting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Estonian diaspora. The summer school welcomes voluntary archival workers as well as other members of Estonian communities– from both east and west– who share an interest in collecting and preserving cultural heritage.
The summer school will consist of lectures, courses, practical exercises and discussions. Specialists from different Estonian memory institutions will share their knowledge on archival science, library science and museology. So far, three summer schools have been arranged: in Koke 2007, in Käsmu 2008 and in Viljandi 2010.
The 2011 summer school will focus on the collecting of cultural heritage: what to collect, how, from where, for whom and why. These topics were last discussed more in depth at the conference for Baltic archives abroad in the summer of 2006. Has the situation changed since then, and if so, how? What new projects have been started? What new co-operation opportunities and needs have arisen? Since these topics are on the agenda in the Baltic diaspora as a whole, we welcome members of the Latvian and Lithuanian diaspora involved in the preservation of cultural heritage to the summer school on the 29th – 30th of June.
As always, the summer school will feature an interesting cultural programme and an excursion to a memory institution – this time in Valga and Valga County.
The working languages of the summer school will be Estonian on the 26th -28th of June, and English on the 29th –30th of June. The NPA Baltic Heritage Network’s annual meeting on the 30th of June will be held in English.
