Gintė Damušytė, ambassador and director of the Department of Lithuanians Living Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affair of the Republic of Lithuania visited the National Library of Lithuania Lituanica Department on 16 June.
During the visit, Jolanta Budriūnienė, director of the Lituanica Department, and Dr. Giedrė Milerytė, a senior specialist at the Department, introduced the ambassador to the Department’s field of work, discussed future collections projects, publishing, and publicising information about Lithuanians living abroad. Ambassador Damušytė pointed to multiple possibilities of inviting Lithuanian diaspora communities to become partners of future projects, thus consolidating the potential of organisations working in the same field abroad. She also introduced the representatives of the Lituanica Department to the most important events and dates planned by her Department and invited the Lituanica Department to participate.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, together with its diplomatic missions abroad, is responsible for the Lithuanian Government’s policies regarding relations with Lithuanians living abroad. The Department of Lithuanians Living Abroad consists of two sections: Global Lithuania and Relations with Communities and Information. The ambassador Damušytė took office in 2013.
