This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Lithuanian Charter, which established the Lithuanian World Community. The Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania declared this year the Year of World Lithuanians.

2018 was significant in Latvian history: 100 years earlier, on the 18th of November 1918, Latvia declared its independence; 30 years earlier, in 1988, the formation of the Popular Front of Latvia (Latvijas Tautas fronte) was the beginning of the Singing Revolution, which culminated on the 4th of May, 1990 when the Supreme Council of Latvia declared restoration of Latvia’s independence.

When did the first invention take place in Lithuania? Did Lithuanians have their own Thomas Edison? Why one magazine called the transatlantic flight performed by Darius and Girėnas a technical invention? Has anything changed in the world of inventions after Lithuania’s Independence in 1990s? What inventions do Lithuanians are famous for today?

Estonian Citizen’s Day is celebrated on November 26. Every year, the Foreign Ministry awards letters of appreciation to people and civic organizations who have promoted and upheld Estonia around the world.

On November 29 – December 1, 2018 the Annual Conference of the Centre of Excellence in Estonian Studies “On the Move: Migration and Diasporas” takes place at the Estonian Literary Museum, Tartu, Estonia.

On November 8, 2018 the internationally renowned Estonian artist Peeter Laurits joined guests at Tartu College to share his work and world view, and answer questions presented by audience members.

This year, two capital books about Lithuanian-American contribution to Lithuania’s statehood and independence were published in Lithuania.

The Estonian newspaper in Australia, Meie Kodu, has published two articles about the Baltic Heritage Network conference held in Tartu in June this year.

On October 24, 2018, a traveling exhibition “For Freedom” put together by Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture was opened at the European Union in the United States.
