Second life of heritage collections – management and use of audiovisual content The 14th BAAC annual conference will be held from October 11th to 13th 2017 in Warsaw, Poland. The conference will be hosted by Polish National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute.

On 16-17 August, 2017, National Library of Lithuania will host the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) Satellite Meeting.

The Stanford University Libraries will be hosting the 2018 AABS (the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies) Conference at Stanford University.

On May 10th, 2017, Professor Jüri Kivimäe of the University of Toronto E. Tampõld Chair of Estonian Studies gave a lecture on the topic of “The Meaning of the Lutheran Reformation in Estonian Culture” to celebrate 500 years since the beginning of the reformation.

VEMU has tried to walk hand in hand with Estonia with our programme of events. One way we do this is by keeping an eye on the themes the Ministry of Culture announces in Estonia each year. In 2013 we celebrated the Year of Cultural Heritage with a number of projects. For the Year of Music in 2015 we announced a collection campaign, which we concluded in the summer of 2016 at the symposium dedicated to Roman Toi’s 100th birthday.

On March 4th, 2017 the exhibit Sharing Our Stories: The Baltic Diaspora at Home in Canada was opened at VEMU in the hall of Tartu College.

On May 4, 2017, National Library of Lithuania held 4th interdisciplinary diaspora seminar, bringing together researchers from different academic fields.

Lea Kreinin defended her doctoral thesis on 2 May in Glasgow. Her thesis looks at the Estonian community in Scotland.
