A group of workers from Estonian memory institutions, members of Baltic Heritage Network (BaltHerNet), visited Toronto at the end of October.

The Estonian-Latvian Conference “Compatriots In Siberia”/ Международная конференция “Эстонцы и латыши в Сибири” On December 10th-11th, 2008 Estonian Literary Museum (Tartu, Vanemuise 42)

Estonian Literary Museum and Estonian Academy of Arts joint exhibition ”Siberian Estonians”. In the White Hall of the Museum of Tartu University History (Tartu, Lossi 25) . Vernissage: December 11th at 4 p.m. Exhibition open till February 28th, 2009.

The Immigration History Research Center will award fellowships in 2009-2010 of up to $15,000 to University of Minnesota graduate students making use of the IHRC’s extensive Estonian, Latvian, and Arab American collections.

The seminar is organized by the Baltic Heritage Network (www.balther.net) in co-operation with Tartu Institute (Toronto) and Chair of Estonian Studies (Toronto University).

The conference is organized by Baltic Heritage Network, the Estonian National Museum, the Estonian Literary Museum and the Estonian National Archives. The conference venue is the Estonian Literary Museum, Vanemuise 42, 51013 Tartu, Estonia. Conference is sponsored by the Compatriot Program (Estonian Ministry of Education and Research).

On December 10th-11th, 2008, the Estonian Literary Museum will host the Estonian-Latvian joint conference ”Compatriots In Siberia” in the museum hall in Tartu (Vanemuise 42).

Programme

It is not so easy to find the name of Andres Laur, the owner of the publishing house Orto, in Estonian reference books. As known, it occurs only in the 1938 lexicon Eesti majandustegelased (Who’s Who in Estonian Economy).

The Estonian National Museum hosted a meeting with the young Estonian-Canadian filmmaker Marcus Kolga in the framework of events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. Kolga talked about the history of Estonia and the world as well as about exploring and documenting it. The audience was shown his documentary Gulag 113. The author of the film is Eduard Kolga, his grandson Marcus Kolga is the director and Rein Kotov is the director of photography.
